And here we go again, sharing another video update before diving into the articles about recent boat repairs. I’m a bit behind on presenting and adding commentary to our Mexico journey videos, but thankfully, Nike has been steadily uploading clips to keep up with our adventure’s pace. Currently, we’re already talking about Season 9, with Season 8 likely focused on her canal boat project—something that will be both fun and nostalgic to watch.
The canal boat search took Nike across Europe to find the right barge for her. Some boats were in questionable condition (one particularly so), yet even that wasn’t an immediate “no.” Our paths first crossed on one such excursion in Narbonne, while she was looking at a boat along the Canal du Midi. That meeting sparked a shared vision to one day journey across France by canal. How fortunate am I that the woman I love not only has the perfect boat for such an adventure but also, as of this month, the required license! Despite how little that certificate seems to cover when it comes to managing a 22-meter vessel, she passed on the first try. I thought I had a quick learning curve, but I’ve truly met my master. Cheers to you, Captain Nike!
Exploring Mexico’s Bays: From Acapulco to Zihuatanejo
Back in Mexico, Acapulco was not the most inviting city—crowded, loud, and far from safe. We stayed only long enough to sort some logistics before setting off. Our first stop brought us to a large, protected bay near Zihuatanejo, where we anchored close to a quiet, sandy beach lined with coconut palms. During the day, boatloads of tourists would arrive, but by evening and early morning, we had the place almost to ourselves. In the video, you’ll see the serene spot where Nike often does her yoga.
This stretch of coast introduced me to “red tide” for the first time, a thick bloom of algae that unfortunately followed us for much of the journey. While it cast an unusual red glow on the water, it also brought an unappealing odor and made swimming less than ideal. Later, we discovered there were crocodiles in the area, which sealed the deal—swimming was off the itinerary!
Hope you enjoy this latest glimpse into our journey! Stay tuned for more updates and, as always, thank you for following along.
Be safe and happy, Floh
