Santana moored in Gambia

Leaving Santana for the Rainy Season in The Gambia

July 15, 20261 min read

Hello everybody,

This one will be a quick update.

Since I wrote to you last time, I’ve mainly been busy with paperwork and getting Santana ready to spend the rainy season here in The Gambia.

I’ve now left her in the hands of Gibril, who will take care of her while I’m away.

Well... you never know if everything will hold up. Something can break at any time. That’s boat life, I guess.

I think the most important part of leaving Santana here is that Gibril checks on her every three days. That way he should notice pretty quickly if something isn’t right.

And even better, he opens all the hatches after every heavy rain.

My hope is that this will keep the mold under control.

All those preparations are done now.

I got all the paperwork together for both Jango and me, and we even made a surprise visit to another country.

Well... "visit" might be a bit of an exaggeration.

Landing in Conakry
Another Capitol in the mogrooves: Approaching Conakry

It was nothing more than a two-hour stopover in the capital of Guinea, with around 3.5 million inhabitants, a city I had never even heard of before: Conakry.

Now I am enjoying the lush green and the forests with Jango and beautiful weather in Europe.

Stay curious, stay salty,
