21st february update – plan for the year

  • by

Hey there,

The year has barely started, and I feel like I am already well into it. And there is yet so much more to come. I am a bit cautious about announcing ambitious plans because last year really taught me a lesson on how differently things can go than expected. With that in mind, I am aware that things can happen, and I might change my plans.

Having said this, I do have an idea. The short version is that I want to move west for basically the entire year and eventually end up in the Caribbean. Right now, I am in a tiny marina at the sailing association in Marciana Marina CVMM. It’s the same place where I used to have my tiny wooden boat, and where Santana spent the last two winters as well. I might stay here until April or May before leaving the marina and anchoring around the island. In March, I wish to fly to the Pacific coast of Mexico to go sailing with a friend who will join me on Santana by the end of the year.

After Mexico, I would like to sail to Sardinia with some friends and be back at Elba for the month of June, where I will have a bit of a farewell tour as I don’t know when or if I’ll return to Elba at all. In June, I plan to have a couple of friends on board and enjoy the Mediterranean summer.

In July, depending a bit on the weather, I will start my journey west and try to spend some time on different islands of the Balearics before leaving towards Gibraltar in the fall. In Gibraltar, I will meet my friend from Mexico, and we will continue west into the Atlantic together, then sail via Madeira, the Canaries, and Cape Verde toward the Caribbean, which we will probably reach early in 2025.

I am going to document the entire journey here on Patreon and will do my best to upload tons of photos and a couple of videos about the trip.

Let me know what you are most interested in.

Take care and all the best, Floh

P.s.: I took the photos in this post this week while anchoring for a couple of days in the bay of Portoferraio.
