Hello everyone,
For those tracking my journey or receiving my automated Garmin messages via email (text me if you’d like to join), you’re already aware that we were anchored near Puerto Vallarta in a stunningly peaceful bay and have already crossed the Sea of Cortez by now. Life here feels like an eternal vacation, perhaps because it mirrors the leisurely pace of the other vacationers around us. By day, Boca de Tomatlan bay is a vibrant tourist place with plenty of charming beachside bars and restaurants, but come sunset, it becomes our private haven shared only with the locals.

We’re anchored using a stern anchor due to the deep waters and narrow confines of the bay, which keeps us steady against the Pacific’s formidable swell—a welcome change after some particularly rolly anchorages in the last week.

Speaking of the sea’s movements, the Pacific swell can be intensely harsh. Unlike Elba, where the wind shifts directions throughout the day and you might find some surprising swell having you rock around at anchor, though usually, you can find refuge on the leeward side of the island for more tranquil nights.

At one point, we encountered a 2-meter breaking wave right beside our boat just as we were leaving the anchorage. It was a new experience for me; I was on a coaching call, holding onto my things while Nike prepared the boat, raised the anchor, and set off solo. By the time my call ended, we were in much calmer waters and on our way to the next bay.

As we progress toward the Sea of Cortez, our days are a blend of navigation and remote work, proving that one can maintain a professional presence while living the seafaring life. Our scheduling strategy has been effective, with mornings dedicated to calls and flexible afternoons, allowing us to manage both sailing and professional commitments efficiently.

Despite the occasional damp and chilly nights, the warmth of the days provides ample comfort, reminding us why we chose this lifestyle. As we continue North, I am reassured daily that living and working aboard is not only possible but also profoundly fulfilling.
Take care and stay tuned for more updates, Floh
