And here we go again! Video number three is here, and I’m thrilled to be almost aligned with Nike’s release schedule.
In real time, we’re anchored at a tiny island north of Formentera, waiting for the wind to shift. Tomorrow—Tuesday—we plan to set sail toward the African continent. For ease with customs, our destination is Melilla, one of two EU cities on African soil.
That said, we’re taking it easy. If the wind, the waves, or even our mood changes, we’re ready to adapt our plans. After all, flexibility is part of the journey.
A Vision of the Sea of Cortez: Espíritu Santo
This place took me back to my daydreams of the Sea of Cortez. The colors of Isla Espíritu Santo were absolutely mesmerizing.
Moments like this remind me why I was so glad to replace my drone after losing the last one to the Pacific. From above, the vibrant hues of the island unfolded like a masterpiece. It’s no wonder this spot is famous for its nature, including sea lions and the Espíritu Santo antelope squirrel.
As we sailed around the island, we stumbled upon a massive rock absolutely teeming with sea lions. It was magical—and slightly surreal. They lounged on their rock, completely undisturbed by our boat. The scene was so peaceful it felt like visiting a natural zoo, but with the wild charm that only the sea can offer.
A Squirrel Surprise and a Sizzling Hike
The Espíritu Santo antelope squirrel was another highlight. I had never even heard of it until Nike mentioned her father asking if we’d spotted one yet. As if by magic, once we knew to look for them, we found these lively creatures during a morning hike—which, true to form, turned into a midday trek under the blazing sun.
For some reason, my life seems to follow this pattern of hiking when it’s hottest. Despite the heat, we loved every moment of the adventure. However, the rocks became so scorching that I eventually had to carry Boga, who was overheating and burning her little feet. Whether it was the heat or her excitement over the squirrels, she seemed ready for a break!
This journey has been full of surprises, and I can’t wait to see what’s next as we make our way toward Africa. Stay tuned for more updates, and thanks for following along!
Until then, take care my friend, Floh
