July update from Santana

  • by

Hello my friend,

As romantic as Monte Cristo looks in the distance, most of my days are anything but. But I rarely take the time to fully notice them.

After going all in to get everything done in Switzerland and prepping the boat for summer, a mountain of work piled up on my desk. While working on the boat, I signed a new client, which has been a very welcome financial boost—boats certainly aren’t cheap!

And of course, client money doesn’t come without effort.

The past two months have mostly been spent below deck, hopping from one conference call to another. I’ve managed to take the dog out for walks here and there, but otherwise, it’s been a lot of time on the phone, which now has its own fan because it overheats and shuts down after 20 minutes. Another fan is aimed at me!

Fortunately, travel in Africa is starting to pick up again, and we’re back to organizing tours for Kilimanjaro, safaris, and desert adventures. We’ve had to renegotiate prices due to rising fuel costs and the dollar-euro exchange rate, but we’ve put together some great tours for guests in October.

In the last eight weeks, I’ve only moved the boat four times—mostly due to weather or rough waves. But today, I finally reached an agreement to reduce my work hours starting in August, which should free up some time.

I’m not sure of the exact dates yet, but I’ll definitely be sailing to Corsica and Southern France, either at the beginning or end of August. If you’re up for a sailing trip, drop me a note! I’d love to have some company for the passage.

With that, I’ll leave you for today. I hope you’re having a wonderful time—enjoy!

Best,
Florian
