Hey there,
The sails are still up, and we’re moving along—just much slower than we ever expected. Since leaving Sainte-Maxime, we’ve had almost no wind, and when it does show up, it tends to vanish halfway through the journey.
At least we’ve managed to avoid any major thunderstorms… well, except for one yesterday. But we reached our anchorage just in time with all sails down, and it was nowhere near as intense as the one in St. Tropez.
A couple of days ago, we finally passed Genoa. The wind forecast here has been wildly unreliable—not a single accurate prediction in the last 10 days! That makes route planning tricky, as we never know how far we’ll actually get.
One slightly unsettling thing is the lack of other sailing vessels. We haven’t seen another boat at anchor overnight since we left Nice, which makes you wonder if you’re in the right spot or what to expect when night falls. When you’re in a tiny boat and everyone else has disappeared, it can feel a bit eerie. On the bright side, the absence of powerboats means no more huge swells to toss us around!
Our current plan is to head to Elba as fast (well, slow and steady!) as we can and see how we like it there. We’re hoping to find plenty of peaceful bays for quiet nights. After that, we’ll make our way over to Bastia in Corsica and then further south.
We’re also considering tweaking our adventure style a bit, but I’ll fill you in on that once we’ve decided.
Take care, and I’ll leave you with a few more impressions from the journey!
