thoughts on social media

Hey my friend

I hope this message finds you well.

Despite all the boat work and sailing I’ve been doing, I’ve found myself once again questioning my online presence. Too often, I feel torn between reaching as many people as possible and serving those in my inner circle as best I can. To expand my reach, I’ve been managing multiple social media accounts where a couple of thousand people followed me, or so it was stated. However, reality doesn’t always match the numbers. The algorithm filters for the most engaging content, meaning our social media feeds don’t show posts in chronological order but rather prioritize the most engaging ones. Personally, I find this frustrating because I miss out on posts from friends that I’m most interested in if they don’t post regularly. I’d prefer to prioritize what holds value for me by subscribing or unsubscribing to certain channels.

As I’ve let go of a lot of psychological baggage accumulated over the past year, I’ve realized how much distraction comes from platforms like Instagram. Doom scrolling through the feed is just one aspect; the time and energy spent thinking about what to post, when, and how much engagement it will receive is often more consuming.

So, I’m embarking on a social media test. I’ve deleted all of my company accounts and am considering pausing or deleting my private ones as well. I might keep LinkedIn for my coaching network and see how that goes over the next six months.

From now on, there will be two ways to stay in contact with me. Firstly, my blog here on Patreon will be my primary way of communicating about my life journey. Secondly, there is and will be my company newsletter for all coaching-related info at: https://simplicity-of-happiness.com/stay-connected/

I’ve been contemplating this idea for a while now. What do you think about that and how do you manage or limit your social media time?

I recently came across this quote, and I think it relates to people as well as everything in our lives:

“Some people come into your life for a season, some for a reason, and some for a lifetime, but eventually, they all leave. What matters is how we have spent the time in between.”

With these thoughts, I’ll let you go and hope you find inspiration in my stories. Let me know what you think.

Take care and all the best, Floh

P.s.: The photos show the sunrise over Corsica. Taken from my boat during the crossing.
